Hogacre History

Hogacre Common Eco Park was established in 2010 when West Oxford Community Renewables (WOCoRe) leased an unused sports ground from Corpus Christi College. Hogacre Common Eco Park Community Interest Company (HCEPCIC) was soon set up to manage the land and to work with the local community to bring about the changes needed to develop the Eco Park.

Local groups Low Carbon West Oxford and Low Carbon South Oxford work in partnership with HCEPCIC to develop projects on site.

The land’s history before Hogacre Common Eco Park is interesting too. Corpus Christi College had their sports ground here since 1909 when their then President modeled the pavilion based on a London lodge designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

Before then Oxford City Football Club had their ground here for a few years before moving to their Whitehouse Road Stadium around 1890 and earlier still, it is recorded that Christ Church College played Cricket and had a Pheasant shooting arena nearby.
